The mission of the Imagination Library is to foster a love of reading among young learners by ensuring access to free monthly books mailed directly to their homes from Dolly Parton's Imagination Library. Reading begins at birth and the benefits of a home library go far beyond the books. Parents and guardians are a child's first and best teacher. By providing books every month at no cost to families, the Imagination Library increases childhood literacy rates, fosters a love of books, and promotes a culture of reading among all families in Huntington County. The Homework Help program provides middle school and high school students with a safe, quiet, stable, and supportive environment to work on their homework. Students engage in supportive relationships with adult volunteers who serve as mentors helping with homework, teaching life skills, and building relationships with the students. The environment created at Homework Help helps students improve academically, understand their school work, gain life skills, and imagine what is possible in the future.
Youth Services Bureau Empowerment for Community - Students out of School provides quality, comprehensive, empowering programs and services to assist youth and families as they encounter challenges associated with childhood, adolescence and early adulthood. This program is open to any middle school or high school student in Huntington County who has been suspended, expelled or in need of a modified academic day.
Youth Services Bureau Empowerment for Community - Teen Court is an alternative to traditional juvenile sanctions, first time offenders are taught to take greater responsibility for their actions. Successful completion of Teen Court sanctions result in a cleared record, provided there are no new offences.
Youth Services Bureau Empowerment for Community - Skills for Life is an 8 week series that meets for 2 hours per week and is open to any youth ages 13-18. The program provides teens with information and support as they learn life's necessary skills such as: dealing with conflict, healthy relationships, job readiness, tolerance, self-esteem, self-image, and social challenges faced from addiction.
Youth Services Bureau Empowerment for Community - Safe Place supports youth and families 24/7/365 with immediate assistance with challenges such as bullying, homelessness, feelings of hopelessness, suicidal thoughts and so many more things. Trained team members answer the phone and provide guidance and make referrals to resources that can further assist.
The Boys & Girls Club of Huntington County provides dedicated tutoring support to help young 1st through 3rd grade students strengthen their literacy skills. By working with trained tutors, the program aims to enhance reading proficiency, build confidence, and foster a love for learning among youth. This initiative ensures that children develop the essential reading skills needed for future academic success, setting a strong foundation for lifelong learning.
